I began training in Tang Soo Do in 1989/1990 with my daughter, Adrian, and later with my son, Sam, under Grandmaster John Thompson’s direction. I have also studied with Grandmaster James Cummings, Masters Author Lopez, and Sean Thomas. I was tutored by Grandmaster Donnie Meadows for my 6th Dan test.
I hold instruction certification with the Tang Soo Do Karate Association and the Christian Tae Kwon Do League. I have received letters of commendation from TKA and the United States Tang Soo Do Alliance, twice inducted into the International Martial Arts Hall of Fame, (2007 and 2011), and received several TKA awards for Instructor of the Year and Competitor of the Year.
In the mid-90s I began assisting GM Thompson at his dojang at Ed White Middle School and eventually became the lead instructor in 2007. Due to family health issues, the Do Jang was closed in 2009.
I am currently training my granddaughter, Regina in Tang Soo Do. While training with my children and grandchildren, I participated in many local and state tournaments as well as several demonstrations and seminars.
I did not do all this without help from my late wife Regina, who was awarded an honorary black belt in Tang Soo Do for her help at the TKA and for putting up with a bunch of martial artists.
