A respected alumnus of the United States Martial Arts Hall of Fame, he has long exemplified the integrity, professionalism, and traditional values upheld by the nation’s most reputable martial arts organizations. A devout Christian, dedicated family man, avid golfer, and loyal Dallas Cowboys fan, he carries his faith, values, and disciplined lifestyle into every aspect of his leadership and mentorship.
The 1970s and 1980s were the defining years of his competitive rise, establishing him as one of the most dominant martial artists of his era. Consistently ranked among the top ten fighters in his region, he remained undefeated for many years in both kata and kumite. His explosive speed, precision, and relentless fighting spirit made him a hurricane of a force to be reckoned with—feared by opponents, respected by peers, and admired by all who witnessed his performances. Even after transitioning into the Executive division, he continued to excel, earning numerous accolades at tournaments across the country and demonstrating a level of mastery that endured across decades.
Beyond competition, Sr. Grandmaster Smith has been a sought‑after seminar instructor for many years, sharing his deep technical knowledge and experience with students and instructors nationwide. His leadership extends further through his service on the Board of the International Martial Arts Council of America, where he contributes to national standards, ethics, and the preservation of martial arts tradition. He also serves as the Vice President of the Tang Soo Do Karate Association, providing guidance, historical perspective, and organizational leadership that strengthen the association’s mission of preserving lineage and promoting unity. As CEO of the Karate For Your Body systems, he has expanded access to martial arts education and empowered countless individuals to improve their health, confidence, and personal discipline through innovative training methods.
Professionally, Sr. Grandmaster Smith has achieved an MBA in Global Business, a BBA in Business Management, and holds a Black Belt in Lean Six Sigma Methodology—credentials that reflect his commitment to excellence, strategic leadership, and continuous improvement both inside and outside the martial arts world.
